Newsletter #2 Shell Jewelry & Hurricane Season

Fresh off the Press!

Did you know we also make jewelry with the colorful shells of our oysters?

It’s been a couple years now that we’ve made use of the mother-of-pearl shells of our oysters to give life to a new style of jewelry, unique and colorful. These are not pearls, of course, they are sections of the polished shell that are cut and set into Sterling Silver but they’re no less beautiful.

Shell earrings with a big and thin circular sheet of silver with a round multicolored shell where it connects to the ear.Long "winged" pendant set in silver with a diamond-shaped multicolored shell inlaid on the left of the silver wing.
Aside from the anchor pieces on our men’s collection, we normally only sell our mother-of-pearl shell jewelry at our physical stores (at the Pearl Farm, and our San Carlos branch store). This is because they sell so fast, and new designs are constantly coming in. But we finally have a couple pieces to grace our online store. Be the first one to view them, and maybe… the first one to own them too?

They’re lightweight, and both the design and the impactful iridescence of the mother-of-pearl shell are very eye-catching. Just like our pearls it has a certain je ne se quoi with their wide array of colors that changes according to how the light reflects off it.

Hurricane Season

View of the pier with dark, ominous clouds on the overcast sky, contrasting the dark and stormy sea.

If you’ve taken our guided tour, you already know that our pearl oysters live out their natural lives, protected from predators in their nets in the sea. And that our tours take you down and through the facilities down at the pier to see the work that gets done.

So, what happens during hurricane season?

Guaymas is fortunate enough to be in a rather protected area of the Gulf, so not many hurricanes actually enter the region. However, when one does visit, we must be prepared.

Our boats may be made to be in the water, but not quite underwater, so they are hauled into land to eliminate the risk of capsizing. Everything that can be swept up in a gust of wind or destroyed by rain is stored safely until the skies are clear. And of course, we have safety protocols to ensure our oysters remain safe.

Depending on the weather conditions, guided tours may be suspended, but our store remains open to the public unless specified otherwise. That way we can ensure the safety of our clients, and of our team. If you’re unsure about the status of your tour, you can always give us a call, or shoot us a message through WhatsApp.

That’s it for now, thank you for reading, and until next time,
